Description
The K8 telephone kiosk at High Street Kensington Station is a Grade II listed structure, designed by Bruce Martin for the General Post Office and produced from 1968.
This kiosk is made from cast iron, aluminium, and strengthened glass. It consists of six cast iron parts and features an aluminium door. Three sides, including the door, are fitted with large sheets of toughened glass set in rectangular frames with rounded corners. Above the integral door handle, there is a lock mechanism. The fourth side is a back panel made of cast iron. The kiosk has a square plan topped with a flat-roofed dome, which is also glazed with toughened glass on four sides. The glass panes are marked with the text 'PRIVATE' and are set within a cast-line moulding. The kiosk is painted blue and retains its original telephone equipment and surround, although the auto-phone and shelf below are later replacements.
It is located on the westbound platform (Platform 3) of High Street Kensington underground station.
