Description
Numbers 28-33 Gerrard Road are a group of terraced houses dating from approximately 1845, located in Islington. They are constructed of yellow brick laid in a Flemish bond, with stucco facings, and have a roof hidden behind a parapet. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement, and have two windows each. The group is symmetrical in appearance, with the end houses projecting slightly.
The basement and ground floor are stuccoed. A segmental-arched entrance has a moulded stucco architrave and a recessed doorway with a panelled door at number 32. Number 21 Danbury Street has a single-storey recessed porch wing featuring banded rustication and pilasters supporting segmental archivolts. This wing’s northernmost bay contains a 19th-century shopfront with pilasters framing a round-arched window with a moulded wooden architrave and arcaded glazing. Ground-floor windows are round-arched, with a sill band that terminates the stucco at the first floor level. Upper-floor windows are flat-arched with moulded stucco architraves, and have cornices and iron balconies on the first floor. The sashes are of original design, with radiating glazing bars to the ground floor windows of number 21 Danbury Street, the first and second floors of number 32, and the ground and first floors of number 33. A moulded stucco cornice and blocking course tops the building. Party wall stacks are present. Cast iron railings are attached to the area.
