Description
Numbers 24-26, 28, 30, 32-38 and attached railings are a row of terraced houses built between 1847 and 1853, developed by George Frasi and James Beaumont. The buildings are constructed of brick and stucco, with slate roofs, and rise three storeys over a half-basement. This symmetrical group features end and central sections with second-floor windows in a full attic storey, while the remaining sections have round-arched dormers in a mansard roof.
The end sections, numbers 24-25 and 38, are four bays wide with side entrances, while the central section, numbers 31-32, is six bays wide. The other houses are arranged in two groups of four two-bay houses. The half-basements and ground floors are stuccoed, with the ground floors displaying banded rustication. Each house features Greek Doric porches, panelled doors, and fanlights. The first-floor windows are flat-arched, with the end and central sections adorned with architraves and cornices on consoles, as well as cast iron balconies similar to those on numbers 31-59 Compton Road. The other houses have architraves only and window-guards made of scrolling ironwork.
A cornice runs along the entire terrace, with bracketed stops between the mansard-roofed houses, and the attic storeys have round-arched windows. Most sashes on the first and second floors have margin lights. Numbers 30, 32, and 33 feature cast-iron window-guards on their ground-floor windows. Number 38 includes a two-storey recessed entrance bay with a panelled door and fanlight framed by pilasters. The steps and area are enclosed by cast-iron railings.
