Description
A row of three terraced houses, now offices and a restaurant, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The houses are located on St John Street in Islington. Number 69 is of yellow brick in a Flemish bond, with red brick dressings. Numbers 71 and 73 are largely stuccoed, with a tile roof on number 69 and slate roofs on numbers 71 and 73.
The houses are four storeys high. Number 69 has a two-window front, while numbers 71 and 73 have a three-window front. The ground floor of number 69 features an arcade of Ionic columns supporting a fascia and scrolled consoles with fascia stops; the arcade extends, but without the fascia, across the first bay of numbers 71 and 73. Round arched openings are set between the columns, and now altered, with keystones above. The first and second floor windows of number 69 are flat-arched, with heads of gauged red brick and original 6/6 sash windows. The houses have a parapet and two dormers in the roof.
Numbers 71 and 73 have a late 20th-century restaurant front covering all but the left-hand bay. The left-hand bay retains warehouse doors on the first and second floors; the upper door is set within a segmental arch of gauged brick. The other windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads, and original 6/6 sash windows, except for the first-floor right window. A parapet is present, and there are two dormers in the roof.
