Description

Numbers 8-12 (even) are a row of terraced houses located on Canonbury Lane, dating from the mid-19th century. They are constructed from brown brick with stucco, and their roofs are obscured by a parapet. The houses rise four storeys above a basement, each featuring two windows, although the original entrance of number 10 has been altered to a window. The basement and ground floor are stuccoed, with the ground floor showcasing banded rustication. Access is via steps leading up to a flat-arched entrance that has a small cornice supported by paired consoles, along with an overlight. The ground floor windows are flat-arched with moulded architraves, while all upper windows are also flat-arched with moulded architraves. The first floor windows have cornices on consoles and iron balconies, and the second floor features floating cornices. The windows on the first and second floors are sashes with margin lights, and there is a sill band at the third floor level. The parapet is present, and there are stacks on the party walls. The area railings are adorned with leaf-and-bud finials.

Inside number 8, most original features remain intact. The basement contains a cast-iron range, and there is a staircase leading to all floors with a wreathed handrail and stick balusters, some of which are missing. The front and back rooms on the ground and first floors each have cornice mouldings, ceiling roses, marble mantelpieces, and cast-iron fireplaces. On the second floor, the front room has cornice mouldings, while both rooms have simpler mantelpieces and cast-iron fireplaces. The third floor features small cast-iron fireplaces, and panelled doors and architraves are present throughout the house.
