Description
Approximately 50 metres of railings located to the northwest of Canonbury Grove and Canonbury Road were constructed in the 1820s for the New River Company. These railings are made of cast and wrought iron and feature straight shafts topped with urn finials. Every eleventh shaft is paired with another shaft that is set back. The railings along Canonbury Grove include a mid-rail that is mounted on a cast-iron plinth, which is interrupted by 20th-century gates. The railings along Canonbury Road are set on a brick base with stone coping and brick piers. These railings are linked to the re-alignment of the New River and the rebuilding of Canonbury Road Bridge in 1823.
