Description

The Cannon Brewery building is a brewery structure built in 1893 by Bradford and Sons. It features a combination of granite, sandstone, and red brick set in Flemish bond, with a roof that is obscured by a parapet. The building stands three storeys over a basement and has a four-window range.

At the base, there is a battered granite plinth and rusticated brickwork on the ground floor. The ground floor includes an elliptical-arched carriage entrance with a gauged brick head, where the brickwork is arranged in the form of voussoirs, and a rounded granite moulding on the intrados. The entrance is flanked by panelled and elaborately ornamented wooden gates. To the left of the entrance are three segmental-arched windows with gauged brick heads and keystones, with one window on the left and two on the right.

On the first and second floors, the windows are grouped in vertical pairs within recessed panels that are topped by an elliptical arch made of gauged brick. These windows are flat-arched and feature sandstone sill bands and lintel bands, divided by sandstone mullions. Decorative panels, likely made of terracotta, are located between the first and second floors. The building is capped with a brick modillion cornice and a parapet that has a raised central panel inscribed with 'CANNON BREWERY'.
