Description

This is a two-storey terraced house with a shop, dating from 1830. It was rebuilt in that year, as indicated by a plaque reading "REBUILT ANNO DOMINI 1830 BY JAMES BRAKE." The building is constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond, with the roof hidden by a parapet. It has three bays facing St John’s Square and two bays facing Albemarle Way, with a slightly recessed curve at the corner.

The ground floor is decorated with chamfered rustication. The shop windows and entrance are flanked by pilasters that support a fascia and a dentil cornice, extending across the entire front. A curved cornice tops the entrance, and the overlight has decorative glazing. A house entrance is located in Albemarle Way, featuring a cornice, stepped blocking course, and overlight. The upper windows are flat-arched, with the central bay facing St John’s Square and the western bay facing Albemarle Way blank. The second floor retains original 6/6 sash windows. The building features a plain stucco frieze, cornice, and stepped parapet.
