Description

The Sycamores is a group of three early 18th century houses located on North Road in Highgate. Nos 17 and 19 are built of brown brick with red brick dressings and feature tiled roofs. Each of these two houses has two storeys and an attic, with three windows each. They have small central gables with attic windows and segment-headed sash windows with glazing bars in exposed box frames. Some windows in No 19 are blocked. Both houses have six-panel doors with the top panels glazed. Notably, No 17 has a blue plaque from the Greater London Council commemorating the residence of A.E. Housman, during which he wrote "A Shropshire Lad."

No 21, also an early 18th century house, is constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings and has two storeys and an attic, featuring five windows. It has a slightly projecting two-storey addition with one window to the north. The house has a high-pitched tiled roof with three segment-headed dormers and a stone-coped parapet. The segment-headed sash windows have glazing bars in exposed moulded frames. The door is made up of eight fielded panels with the top panel glazed, set in rusticated jambs. The Doric doorcase features fluted pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a modillioned cornice with a segmental pediment.

Nos 11A, 13, 15, 17, 19, and 21, along with No 23, form a cohesive architectural group.
