Description

A terrace of three houses, numbered 16-18 and 18A, was built around 1825-1830 as a symmetrical group. The houses are constructed of stucco and stand three storeys high, with a basement level. Each house is three windows wide. The central house features a projecting Ionic colonnade on the ground floor, supported by an iron balustrade above. The houses on either side have two bays that project beneath a pediment, with the outermost bays recessed and featuring projecting Ionic porches. Balconies are positioned above the ground floor, each sheltered by a tented canopy. Horizontal string courses are visible between the storeys, topped by a cornice and blocking course. The windows have square heads and are sash windows, with the ground floor windows being French doors opening onto the balconies with iron balustrades. Most of the original glazing bars have been retained. The terrace forms part of a cohesive architectural arrangement with numbers 1 to 15, 19, 22 to 39, and 44 to 46.
