Description
No. 235 on Stoke Newington Church Street is an early to mid-18th century building that has undergone some alterations. It stands three stories tall and features five windows. The front is made of painted brick and has a parapet. The high-pitched roof has been renewed with asbestos. The ground floor is rusticated stucco, leading up to a first-floor cill band. The building has sash windows, and the second floor displays mid-19th century moulded stucco architraves that do not completely hide the gauged brick arches behind them. Other windows are adorned with pilasters and hooded cornices supported by console brackets. The entrance features an upside-down door with six fielded panels, a cornice head, and a plain fanlight set within a round architrave that has a triple key block. The doorcase is Doric, with engaged columns, triglyph friezes with guttae, mutules, cornices, and an open pediment. No. 235, along with Nos. 239 and 243, forms a group with Nos. 247 and 249, which are of local interest.
