Description

This is a group of 39 houses, numbered 1 to 39, on the west side of Clissold Road, dating from the mid-19th century. They are arranged in blocks of four houses, each three storeys high with a basement. Numbers 1 and 39 have four windows each, while the others have two. The houses are constructed of yellow brick with recessed detailing, and are distinguished by stucco quoins. Stucco also defines the basement and first-floor string courses. The roofs are low-pitched and slate-covered.

The windows are sash windows, some with glazing bars, set within flat stucco surrounds on the upper floors. The first floor windows have moulded architraves with console bracketed cornices. The ground floor windows have panelled pilasters and console bracketed cornices, which are continuous with the string course. Projecting cills are fitted with ornamental cast iron guards. The front doors are half-glazed four-panel doors with rectangular fanlights, recessed within a prostyle Ionic porch; some of these porches are missing. Numbers 1 to 39 form a cohesive group of buildings.
