Description

Hoxton Hall, located at 128A Hoxton Street, was originally Macdonald’s Music Hall and built in 1863, with possible alterations in 1868. It is a rare example of an early music hall, notable for its small, high stage and two tiers of galleries with iron railings, arranged around three sides and supported by cast iron columns. The front elevation, facing Wilks Place, is constructed of yellow brick and stucco, standing three stories high with a western addition. The ground floor is rusticated, incorporating three blocked openings, the central one featuring a dated keystone. Above, a band inscribed 'Hoxton Hall' runs along the first floor, and the central, blind window opening is topped by a segmental pediment on brackets. Two pilasters ascend through a second-floor sill band to a cornice and an incomplete pediment. The glazing has been altered.
