Description

This is a pair of early to mid-19th century houses located on the south side of Northchurch Road. Originally conceived as two houses, the facades of numbers 57 to 63 (odd) now appear as a unified block. The buildings are two storeys high and include a basement which has been raised to become a full ground storey in numbers 57 and 59. Numbers 61 and 63 retain their original ground floor entrance, accessed by five steps. The front doors are four-panel doors with pilasters, a cornice head, and a fanlight with margin lights. The houses are constructed of stock brick with low-pitched slate roofs that have eaves soffits. The central and outer bays are set back. The basements are stuccoed. Sash windows with glazing bars and margin lights are set within gauged flat brick arches. On the first floor, which has been transformed into a piano nobile, the windows at numbers 57 and 59 are elongated and feature ornamental cast iron railings. Numbers 37 to 63 (odd) are considered to form a group.
