Description
The Olde Wine Shades is a late 17th-century public house located on Martin Lane. It has three storeys plus dormers beneath a tiled roof and features five windows. The front is plain and stuccoed, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with a simple, pilastered ground storey. The interior, also from the same period, has been altered but retains original joinery, including a staircase and marble chimney-pieces from the early 18th century. The first floor boasts good chimney-pieces and a doorcase from the mid-18th century. The rooms have been significantly partitioned. The rear elevation is original and plain, featuring an eaves-cornice, while the closet-wing has been rebuilt and there is a large extension at the rear.
