Description
The main block of the City of London School, built between 1881 and 1882 by architects Davis and Emanuel, is a large and elaborately designed building made of Portland stone, showcasing a northern renaissance style. It features two main storeys above a basement, with dormers set in a hipped, slated roof. The ground storey is adorned with Ionic columns, while the upper storey features Corinthian columns that support arches with lunette windows. The building includes corner pavilions topped with cupolas and a central lantern on the roof.
At the western side, there is a short return, while the eastern return is now exposed and plain. The front area has two lamp standards on the parapet. The irregular buildings at the rear are not of interest.
Inside, the building boasts a marble entrance staircase with a colonnade and a great hall that occupies the entire upper part of the main block.
