Description
The Former Guildhall School of Music, built between 1885 and 1887 and designed by architect Sir Horace Jones, features an addition from 1897 by Andrew Murray. This three-storey building is constructed of ashlar and has a window arrangement of 1-5-1 sashes. The ground floor is rusticated and includes an entablature above. A central door is topped with an open rounded pediment that rests on projecting consoles supported by Ionic columns. The ends of the front project slightly, featuring piers on the ground floor and paired corner pilasters on the upper floors. Decorative surrounds adorn all windows, with entablatures above each floor. A pierced parapet runs along the entire side elevation facing Tallis Street, which is quite similar in style.
