Description
Nos 43 to 47 on Threadneedle Street, built in 1890, is a bank building designed by T H Smith. It has three upper storeys and a mansarded attic, arranged in eight bays. The ground storey features tall granite columns in the Tuscan style and a granite frieze decorated with a Greek key pattern. Wrought iron railings are present at the basement lights, positioned between the tall column pedestals. The first and second floors are faced with stone and are enhanced by partly fluted Corinthian pilasters with scrolled bases. The large rectangular sash windows on these floors have distinct features: the first-floor windows are topped with shallow triangular pediments, while the second-floor windows have a panelled frieze and cornice above. The building is capped with a slated roof that includes dormers.
