Description
The Hoop and Grapes Public House, located at 47 Aldgate High Street, is a timber-framed building that likely dates back to the late 17th century. It has a ground storey featuring a sash window, which is flanked by a doorway beneath a partly old pentice roof. The entrance is supported by two carved posts that may also be from the 17th century. At the rear, there is a large, irregular wing that is partly rendered and partly boarded. This building, along with No 46, represents a type of structure that was once common in London but has become very rare.
