Description

The Western Tower at Cannon Street Station was built between 1865 and 1866, possibly designed by E M Barry. It is one of a pair of towers that once marked the junction of the train shed and the bridge over the River Thames. The tower is constructed of yellow brick, featuring a plain, channelled lower stage and a more elaborate upper section with open arches, a cornice, and a parapet. It has a square, domed roof topped with a squat lantern and spire. For details on the other tower, refer to the description under Allhallow's Lane.
