Description
The gatehouse fronting onto High Holborn in Gray's Inn dates back to 1583 but was rebuilt around 1965 due to slipping foundations. A reproduction of the stucco south facade was added in 1967. The building features stucco with a rusticated ground floor and a slate roof with a dormer. It stands four storeys tall with an attic and has one window. The carriageway is topped by an elliptical arch, with a smaller round-headed arch for the footway on the left. An oriel extends from the first to the third floor, showcasing three-light sash windows flanked by round-headed niches. The parapet is also a notable feature, while the north side of the gatehouse has been rebuilt in brick. The interior has not been inspected.
