Description
The obelisk marking the City boundary is located on the north side of the roadway in High Holborn. It dates from the mid-19th century and is made of granite. Originally topped with a lantern, it now features a gilded griffin. This obelisk is part of a pair, with an identical obelisk situated on the south side of the road, which is within the City of London. Both obelisks were listed in the City of London on June 5, 1972, and later included in the London Borough of Camden list on May 14, 1974. Following boundary changes on April 1, 1994, this northernmost obelisk is now located in the London Borough of Camden, while the southernmost obelisk remains in the City of London.
