Description

Numbers 7 and 8 are two terraced chambers that form the eastern side of a courtyard, built between 1731 and 1734 and restored in the late 19th century. Due to war damage, they were rebuilt externally in a similar style around 1955 by Edward Maufe. The buildings are constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings and feature moulded brick cornices at the second-floor level. They have a tiled mansard roof with dormers, although only No. 8 has a dormer on the north side. The buildings are three storeys high, with an attic and a basement. No. 7 has seven windows, while No. 8 has five windows. The entrances are framed with stone surrounds that include a pulvinated frieze with an apron tablet above the centre and a cornice with a ban above. The doorways are accessed by steps and railings. The windows have gauged red brick arches and flush frame sashes. There is a parapet at the top of the buildings. The interior was not inspected, but No. 8 features a lead rainwater head inscribed with "TPW 1734."
