Description
This obelisk, marking the City boundary, is located on the south side of the road and dates from the mid-19th century. It is made of granite and was originally topped with a lantern, but now features a gilded Griffin. This obelisk pairs with an identical one on the north side of the road, which is now in the London Borough of Camden. Both obelisks were initially listed in the City of London on June 5, 1972, and were later included in the Camden list on May 14, 1974. Following boundary changes on April 1, 1994, the northern obelisk became part of Camden, while the southern obelisk remains in the City of London.
