Description
South Square Number 1 is a terraced chamber building dating from around 1759. It is constructed of brown brick with red brick quoins and dressings, featuring red brick bands between the floors. The building has a tiled mansard roof with dormers and stands three storeys high with an attic, containing three windows. The entrance is marked by a stone doorcase with consoles and a broken segmental pediment topped with a ball. The recessed sash windows are adorned with gauged red brick flat arches. The building has a parapet and lead rainwater pipes and heads that feature gilded lions. Inside, there is a staircase with a closed string, turned balusters, and columned newels, along with some panelled rooms.
