Description
Holly Cottage is a semi-detached house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brown brick, with the eastern side featuring 20th-century weatherboarding. The house has a tiled hipped roof and a 20th-century Georgian style doorcase that includes a bracketed open pediment and an architraved doorway with a half-glazed door. The windows have gauged red brick flat arches and recessed sashes with exposed boxing, and there is a parapet on the building. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the house was included in Ford Maddox Brown's painting "Work" from 1852, which was inspired by his observations of navvies working on Hampstead's main drainage. He also lodged here in 1883.
