Description
The War Memorial at the United Reformed Church is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, designed by Herbert Ibberson. It is made of carved limestone with granite panels.
Located to the north-west of Highgate United Reformed Church, the memorial features a cross crosslet decorated with foliage on its arms, set atop a tapering octagonal shaft that is approximately 3 meters high and has a moulded base. This shaft rests on a chamfered square plinth and a two-tiered stepped base, which together stand about 0.9 meters high. Each side of the plinth includes a granite panel. The front panel displays an inscription in lead lettering that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND/ IN LOVING MEMORY OF/ THE MEN WHO GAVE/ THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919." The other three panels list the names of 27 men who died during the conflict.
