Description
Moreton House, built around 1715 for Roger Young, features a later extension and was restored in 1978. The upper floors were rebuilt and the interiors altered around 1983 due to fire damage. The house has a semi-basement that is stuccoed, while the ground floor is made of brown brick with red brick dressings and quoins. The upper floors are constructed from multi-coloured stock brick, also with red brick dressings and quoins. It stands three storeys high with a semi-basement and has a double fronted design with five windows. The wooden doorcase is adorned with Ionic columns, a pulvinated frieze, and a mutule pediment, featuring a panelled door and overlight. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and flush sashes with exposed boxing. There are plain brick bands at the first and second floor levels, and a brick cornice beneath the parapet with sunk panels above the windows. The interior has been altered. The house is accompanied by attached cast-iron railings with urn finials and a gate. Originally, Moreton House was built as one of a pair, but No. 15 was demolished and replaced in 1868.
