Description
The Zabludowicz Collection, formerly a Methodist Church, is now an art gallery and exhibition space. Built around 1871, it features a brick structure with Bath stone facing on the portico. The building has a rectangular plan in a Classical style and stands two stories tall.
The front has a five-bay portico supported by giant Composite columns arranged in a distyle-in-antis formation, which hold up an entablature and a pediment adorned with a carved wreath in the tympanum. Each flanking bay has a single round-arched window at the second floor level, with a band at the first floor. There are return bays on either side of the portico that are similar in design.
The main entrance consists of three round-arched doorways linked by impost strings, although the central entrance has been converted into a window. Above the doors, there is a band and three round-arched windows. Square-headed doors are located to the right and left of the entrance. The church's body has six bays, featuring square-headed windows on the ground floor and round-arched windows on the first floor, with pilaster strips separating the bays that rise to a cornice.
Inside, the church has been altered but still retains original decorative elements, including Ionic three-quarter columns and continuous galleries around three sides supported by cast-iron columns.
