Description

This is a terrace of six houses built around 1800 to 1803 by James Burton. The houses are made of multi-coloured stock brick with rusticated stucco ground floors. They rise four storeys with basements and each house features three windows, except for No. 38, which has a five-window return that is mostly blind, facing Montague Place. The round-arched doorways have pilaster-jambs, cornice-heads, fanlights, sidelights, and double panelled doors. No. 38 has its entrance on the return side, featuring a stuccoed Doric projecting porch. The doorway of No. 40 has been converted for use as a window. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and recessed sashes, with cast-iron balconies on the first-floor windows. A stucco cornice is present at the third-floor level, and there are parapets above the attic storey. The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace also includes attached cast-iron railings with urn finials in front of the areas.
