Description

This is a detached house built around 1886 by Harry Measures, for William Willett and Son, who were builder-developers. The ground floor is constructed of red brick, while the upper floors are of yellow brick with red brick dressings and pilasters to the right-hand angles, incorporating rubbed brick and terracotta detailing. The roof is tiled, with hipped and gabled sections, dormers, and tall brick chimney stacks featuring shaped ends and rubbed brick cornices on both sides.

The house is three storeys tall, with attics and a semi-basement. The window arrangement is irregular, with three windows across the front. Ground floor windows have stained glass top lights, while upper floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars to the upper halves. A projecting gabled bay on the right has a three-light canted bay window extending from the semi-basement to the first floor. Ground floor windows in this bay have gauged brick flat arches, shaped keystones, and a continuous bracketed sill. The first floor has an enriched terracotta frieze lintel that runs across the facade. Above this, a parapet rises to a second-floor tripartite sash window, with pilasters supporting a dentil entablature lintel topped with an open pediment set into the gable. The gable itself has red brick bands linked by projecting vertical and horizontal elements, with a missing finial at the top.

A centrally projecting entrance bay forms a portico on the ground floor, with round-arched openings. The entrance has enriched spandrels flanked by rubbed brick pilasters with enriched capitals, supporting a frieze with paterae and a segmental pediment. Steps lead up to the entrance. The first and second floors continue as a two-light bay window, with yellow brick recessed panel aprons and pilasters supporting an entablature topped with shaped console pediments featuring keyed oculi on each elevation. A recessed bay to the left has two windows on each floor, the ground floor windows with gauged brick heads and shaped keystones. The interior of the house was not inspected.
