Description

This is a row of four terraced houses with later shops, located on Heath Street. Number 78 likely dates from the 18th century and was refronted in the early 19th century. It has a cement facade, channelled to resemble ashlar, two storeys and one window. A 19th-century shopfront has been altered but retains a projecting cornice, and there is an architraved sash window. A parapet tops the building.

Number 80 dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of multi-coloured stock brick, with three storeys and two windows. A late 19th-century shopfront incorporates pilasters, a cornice, fascia brackets, and a 20th-century fascia. Gauged red brick flat arches are above the recessed sash windows. A parapet is present.

Number 82 incorporates one bay of Number 84. It is an original late 18th-century timber-framed cottage rendered in stucco, with a tiled roof, two storeys, and two windows. Two 20th-century shopfronts have been inserted. On the first floor, a window to the right is wide with small panes under the eaves, while a window to the left contains 20th-century stained glass.

The right-hand bay of Number 84 is now part of Number 82. This section dates from the late 18th or early 19th century, with a stucco exterior and a slated roof, two storeys, and two windows. The right-hand ground floor has a 20th-century shopfront as part of Number 82, while the remaining section has a reproduction 19th-century shopfront with a modillion cornice. The recessed windows have four panes each, and a parapet tops the facade.

The interior of Number 82 retains two walls of exposed timber framing and an early 20th-century open timber roof. The interiors of the other houses have been altered and original staircases have been removed. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
