Description
The mausoleum of Davison Dalziel, Lord Dalziel of Wooler, who died in 1928, is located in Highgate (Eastern) Cemetery. This large structure is made of pink granite and has an octagonal shape, featuring pairs of Doric columns at each angle. The entrance includes an open pedimental doorcase with panelled bronze doors that have lion mask bosses, accessible by a flight of steps. The walls are rusticated, and there is a central skylight along with a circular window on the rear wall that has bronze enrichment. Historically, Dalziel was a prominent figure with interests in transport, rubber, and publishing. He played a key role in introducing the motor cab to London and Pullman carriages to the British railways system.
