Description

The Statue of Sir Sydney Waterlow, located in Waterlow Park, was erected in 1900 and created by the sculptor F.A. Taubman. This bronze statue depicts Sir Sydney Waterlow in contemporary dress, holding a hat and umbrella in his right hand and the keys to the park in his left. It stands on a Portland stone pedestal that is inscribed with the following text: "Sir Sydney H. Waterlow Bart./Donor of this park/1889/Lord Mayor of London 1872-1873/Erected by public subscription 1900."

Historically, Sir Sydney Waterlow donated both Lauderdale House and Waterlow Park to the London County Council in 1889, and the park was opened to the public in 1891.
