Description
A terrace of nine houses at 15 to 31 Gloucester Avenue was built around 1848. The houses are constructed of yellow brick, with rusticated stucco on the ground floors and quoins. Number 16 has a felted mansard roof and attic dormers. The terrace is symmetrical, with the houses at the ends (numbers 17 and 31) and in the centre (numbers 21 and 23) slightly projecting. The houses are four storeys high and have basements. Each has two windows. The design includes prostyle Doric porticoes, doorways with fanlights and half-glazed doors; the entrance to number 15 has been converted into a window. The ground-floor windows are tripartite sashes. The first floor has casements with continuous cast-iron balconies, each defined by a gauged brick flat arch. The second and third floors feature recessed sashes, also with gauged brick flat arches above. A stucco dentil cornice runs along the front at the level of the third floor, topped by a parapet. The interiors have not been inspected.
