Description
The National Westminster Bank is a bank building constructed in 1854 by Henry Baker. It is made of Portland stone and consists of four storeys and basements, featuring a five-bay symmetrical facade in the Palladian style. The entrance bays at either end slightly project and are adorned with rusticated quoins. The ground floor has three segmental-arched windows, while the doorways are round arched with vermiculated rusticated surrounds, each featuring a coat of arms in cartouches on the keystones. Engaged columns are present on the left side, and brackets on the east side support blind balustraded balconies at the first floor level. The doorways include fanlights and double panelled doors. Sill strings are positioned at each floor level, and the architraved sash windows on the first floor have bracketed pediments, while those on the second floor are topped with cornices. The building is capped with a console-bracketed cornice that has a Greek fret frieze below, featuring paired lion-head stops. The interior has not been inspected.
