Description

This is a pair of early 18th-century terraced houses, later adapted to include shops. The front was reconstructed in the early 20th century to resemble the original appearance. The building is constructed of yellow brick with red brick dressings and horizontal bands. It is four storeys high and features five windows, with the left-hand window on each floor being blind. The late 19th-century shop fronts have stuccoed Corinthian pilasters, console bracket stops, and an enriched entablature; they include modern plate glass glazing. Upper floor windows are flush framed sashes with gauged red brick flat arches. A parapet tops the building. The rear facade is of original brown brick. The interior of No. 70 retains a good panelled hall and staircase with boxed-out cornices, including an original staircase with a closed string, turned balusters, and square newels.
