Description

This is a symmetrical terrace of five houses built around 1845 to 1859. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick with stucco detailing, including a mutule cornice, quoins, a continuous sill band to the second floor, and stucco dressings. The ground floors are channelled stucco. There are four storeys and basements. Each house has two windows, except for the end houses, which also have recessed entrance bays with one window each. Numbers 53 and 57 slightly project forward. The central houses have prostyle porticos with square-headed entrances, overlights, and panelled doors, approached by steps. The recessed entrances have arched porches with pilasters and stucco balustrades. The windows are four-pane sashes; those on the ground floor of the central houses are round-arched, while those on numbers 53 and 57 are square-headed. The upper floors have architraved surrounds; the first floor features console-bracketed pediments, segmental for the central houses, and continuous cast-iron balconies extending over the porticos. The second floor has cornices, and the third floor has lugged sills. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings define the areas.
