Description

34 Angel Hill is a shop and offices that was originally a shop and house. It has a core that dates back to the 16th century, with a front added in the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed and has a front faced with painted brick, topped by a slate roof.

The exterior features two storeys, with a one-bay addition to the north and a small extension at the rear. It has a basic two-cell plan and a three-window range, consisting of two 16-pane sash windows set in deep reveals and one central blocked window. The late 20th-century shop front is designed in a traditional style, featuring a plain fascia, vertical glazing bars in the lights, and a central entrance. A door on the left provides access to the upper storey.

The small adjacent section to the north is timber-framed, with the upper storey rendered and the ground storey faced with a projecting layer of painted brick. It has a shallow-pitched slate roof and a canted bay on the upper storey with sash windows in heavy moulded cased frames, including a central 12-pane window and diminished side-lights.

Inside, the main range has an original stud partition that divides the upper storey into two rooms. On the ground storey, there is a chamfered main ceiling beam with curved stepped stops, although most of it is boxed in. The extended rear wall features a section made of random stone blocks.
