Description
34 Guildhall Street is a house located in Bury St Edmunds. It features a 16th-century interior and a late 18th or early 19th-century exterior. The building is timber-framed and rendered, with a roof that combines slate and concrete Roman tiles from the 20th century.
The house has two storeys and is divided into two distinct sections. The main range on the south side has two windows on each storey, all of which are sashes in flush cased frames. The first storey has 16-pane windows, while the ground storey has wider 20-pane windows. A central six-panel door with an integral fanlight is framed by a panelled architrave and topped with a flat cornice hood supported by brackets.
To the north, there is a smaller section with a steeply-pitched roof and one window on each storey. Both windows are sashes in flush cased frames, with 12 panes on the first storey and a wider 16 panes on the ground storey. The ground storey of this section projects slightly and has a small lean-to roof covered with slate.
The interior has not been inspected but is reported to include some 16th-century features, such as exposed beams and an open fireplace.
