Description
Nos 4 to 7 Well Lane is an early 19th century building made of grey gault brick. It has two storeys and features a four-window range on the Market Hill front, although one window is blocked. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, except for the ground storey on Market Hill, which has single vertical glazing bars, all set in plain reveals.
On the ground storey, there are two early 19th century shop windows; one of these on Market Hill is adorned with pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. A six-panel door located on Well Lane has a panelled architrave and a plain hood. There is also a double door on the splayed corner, which is now closed, featuring fluted Doric columns in antis, a triglyph frieze, and a cornice. Two doors on Market Hill have semi-circular brick arched heads with blocked fanlights. Additionally, there are two small 19th century shop fronts, each with pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The roof is slate, with a paired bracketed eaves soffit.
This building is part of a group with all the listed buildings in Market Hill, Church Street, Station Road, and Well Lane.
