Description
Makins Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with alterations from the 17th century and a 20th-century extension. The building is two storeys high and follows a three-cell, lobby-entrance plan. It features a timber-framed structure that is rough-cast rendered, topped with an asbestos-slated roof and an axial chimney made of red brick. The windows are 20th-century casements, and there is a boarded entrance door. The timber-framing is of good quality, with unmoulded details and tension bracing at the gable end. A massive axial chimney with back-to-back open fireplaces was inserted around 1600. The roof has been rebuilt, and a rear wing was added in the mid-20th century. The farmhouse is included in the listing despite these alterations due to its good, albeit largely concealed, frame.
