Description

The School House is a former village school and schoolhouse, now a dwelling, dating from the mid 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring rusticated white brick quoins and dressings, along with an ogee-moulded cornice. The roofs are covered with black glazed pantiles, and some sections retain crested ridge-tiles. The gables have pierced and fluted bargeboards.

The former school section, located to the west, is single-storey and has a T-shaped form, with a small centrally-placed wing that juts forward. It has two narrow windows on the south side and doors for schoolchildren on the east and west sides. A small wooden bell turret with a hipped slate roof sits atop the building. Each side of the wing features a small-paned sash window with a flat gauged arch for the school rooms. At the west end, there is a 5-sided canted bay added at a slightly later date, which includes three small-paned sash windows and a tented slate roof, constructed with matching materials.

To the east, attached to the school, is the former schoolhouse, which is two-storey and has a central chimney stack. The large plain red brick chimney shaft is accented with white brick rustication. It has two small-paned sash windows. On the east side, there is a single-storey extension built with matching materials, which now serves as the entry. The rear wall of the house is made of rubble flint.
