Description
Commerce House is an early to mid-18th century timber-framed and plastered house designed in an L-shaped plan with wings extending to the north and east. It is two storeys high with attics. The main facade faces west and features a three-window range, while the shop front on the south side has a four-window range. Both fronts have double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in flush cased frames. The west front is highlighted by a notable 18th-century Gibbs doorway, which includes a rusticated architrave, a triglyph frieze, and a modillioned pediment supported by console brackets. The south front showcases an early 19th-century double fronted shop window with glazing bars and small panes. The ground storey windows are fitted with panelled shutters. The roof is thatched and includes three gabled dormers, while the remaining roof is tiled.
