Description
This barn, located 30 yards south of Barrow Hall, dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It features nine bays and has one aisle to the south and two midstreys to the north. The structure is timber-framed, with weatherboarding at the lower level and rendered and pargetted upper walls on the north side and midstreys. The main roof is thatched, while the aisle roof is slated. The walls are supported by long straight through-braces, and the aisles are braced from the plinth up to the aisle tie, with some braces extending to the back of the arcade post head. The roof includes two purlins on each main slope, with the lower purlin butted and the upper clasped, and the principal rafters are queen-strutted.
