Description

This is a house located on Church Lane, dating from the 15th or early 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th and early 19th centuries. It is an open-hall house consisting of two or three cells, constructed from timber framing and rendered. The roof is thatched and half-hipped at the left end, featuring eyebrow casement dormers and a rendered axial chimney.

The early 19th-century windows are in the Gothick style, primarily consisting of two lights with wooden casements, Y-tracery in the spandrels, and leaded lights. There is a 20th-century semi-circular porch that is one storey high with a swept thatched roof. The entrance door is boarded and battened, adorned with nail-heads and decorative hinges.

The left cell is well preserved, showcasing an exposed lodged first floor and a good coupled-rafter roof. The straight tie-beam bracing is lap-jointed at the upper end, an archaic technique that persisted into the 15th century in the Dalham area. A chimney and first floor were inserted into the hall in the 17th century, while the right cell was added or altered in the 17th or 18th century.
