Description

The Old Manor is a house that dates from the early 18th century, with a core from the early 17th century and 19th-century alterations made in two stages. It has two storeys and three windows. The walls are rendered, with the 17th-century section likely made of clunch and featuring brick dressings, while the 18th-century extensions are timber-framed. The rear has early or mid-19th-century alterations made of flint rubble with red brick quoins. The roofs are plaintiled, with a parapet gable at the north end that has moulded brick copings. There is an axial chimney made of red brick, with four 19th-century attached octagonal flues on a rendered plinth. The front features early 19th-century small-pane sash windows and two fine early 17th-century oak mullioned and transomed windows on the left-hand gable, with another blocked-in at the rear. The entrance door is an early 19th-century glazed panelled type, set deeply recessed. The 17th-century core consists of two cells on the left, which was extended by one cell to the right in the 18th century, with a kitchen wing added behind; the entire roof was also renewed at that time. There was further remodelling and a rear extension in the mid-19th century. The house is believed to have served as a dower house, occupied in the 17th century by a member of the Stuteville family from Dalham Hall. It was formerly known as Hall Farmhouse.
