Description
Church Farmhouse is a late 15th century or early 16th century timber-framed and plastered house located on the west side of High Street in Clare. The front of the building features plastered panels and stands two storeys high, with a jettied upper storey supported by brackets, which still show the remains of shafts. At the rear, there is a wing that also has a jettied upper storey with a bracket and the remains of a shaft.
On the front, the first storey includes oriel bays with mullioned and transomed casements, which are likely from the 18th century, supported by brackets. The ground storey has two 20th century bays beneath the jetty. The roof is slate on the front and tiled at the rear. Inside, the house contains some moulded beams, exposed studding, and remnants of 16th century panelling.
Church Farmhouse is part of a group that includes No 15 (The Vicarage), the wall to the Vicarage, No 16 (Galloway House), Nos 17 to 22 (consecutive), No 23 (Church Farmhouse), No 26, and The Parish Church of SS Peter and Paul.
