Description
Clarendon House, including railings, is a building located on High Street in Newmarket. It dates from the 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th and early 20th centuries. The structure has three windows and consists of two storeys, a basement, and attics. It is constructed of red brick, featuring a band of gauged brick at the first floor and parapet gables. The roof is plaintiled with flat-headed dormers. The windows have flat arches made of gauged brick, with flush frames and small-pane sashes, some of which retain thick 18th-century glazing bars. To the left, there is a two-storey early 19th-century semi-circular bay window with triple carved small-pane sashes. The entrance door, dating from the 19th century, is flanked by pilasters and has a cornice made of early 20th-century moulded red brick, along with a six-panelled door and an oblong fanlight with curved glazing bars. The front features early 19th-century spearhead railings and a pedestrian gate. The building has two rear wings: the central one is early 19th century, while the western one is early 20th century.
