Description
Nos. 42-48 on Westgate Street in Bury St Edmunds is a terrace of seven houses dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of white brick with a slate roof and feature four internal chimney-stacks with large rectangular shafts and corbelled caps.
The terrace is two storeys high and includes cellars, with a total of eight window openings. All windows are 12-paned sashes set in plain reveals, topped with flat gauged arches and projecting stone sills. Between each pair of upper windows, there are two blank window openings, with No. 46 featuring a painted false window. The entrance doors, which are original six-panel doors for Nos. 45, 47, and 48, are arranged in pairs beneath the blank windows, framed by semicircular brick arched surrounds with plain reveals and blank fanlights. Additionally, there is a recessed cast-iron foot-scraper located between each pair of entrances. The interior has not been inspected.
